Description

Step off the path and into the living landscape of Quiet Valley Ranch.

Each Sunday morning during the Kerrville Folk Festival, geographer and longtime festival goer Howie Richey leads a guided Habitat Hike that explores the natural and cultural layers of the land we gather on. These moderately strenuous walks wind through much of the campground, climbing Sumac Ridge for sweeping views of creek and river valleys, crossing the open Big Meadow, and ascending Chapel Hill before looping back to where the journey began.

Along the way, participants learn about the ranch’s geology, landforms, native plants, wildlife, and human history, gaining a deeper appreciation for the place that holds the festival year after year. It’s part hike, part outdoor classroom, and part storytelling, all guided by someone who knows the terrain well.
